The South China Sea Fishery Science and Technology Innovation Alliance, initiated by the Chinese Academy of Fisheries Sciences and led by the South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, was formally established in Sanya on April 13, 2019, having attracting wide public attention. Xinhua News Agency, China News Agency, Science and Technology Daily, Hainan Daily, China Fisheries Daily, China Fisheries Daily, Aquatic Frontier, Marine and Fisheries, Agricultural Treasure Book Aquatic Edition and other mainstream and industry media reported for the first time. Sanya Satellite TV, Sansha Satellite TV and other local satellite TV timely carried out video reports. More than 30 large-scale media, such as Nanfang Daily and Zhuhai Special Zone Daily, followed up and reproduced them. It has become one of the hotspots of social concerns.
Wang Xiaohu, President of the Chinese Academy of Fisheries Sciences, and Shigui Changjiang, Director of South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, were interviewed by several journalists at the inaugural meeting. The South China Sea Fishery Science and Technology Innovation Alliance will strengthen the research of modern breeding technology, improve breeding efficiency and promote the independent innovation of National Aquatic Seed Industry in combination with the superior natural conditions of the South China Sea. We will build a national South China Sea biological germplasm resource bank and aquatic germplasm resources import and transfer base, as well as a national research and Development Center for the conservation and innovative utilization of biological germplasm resources in the South China Sea, so as to protect the diversity of biological germplasm resources in the South China Sea, and to provide basic materials for the development of marine strategic emerging industries. We will promote the construction and ecological restoration of modern marine pasture demonstration areas in the South China Sea, build a scientific and technological support system for the construction of modern marine pasture demonstration areas, carry out a fishery resources survey and assessment system in the South China Sea, and build a prediction system for large-scale deep-sea species. We will expand deep sea areas, develop core equipment such as aquaculture boats or large floating aquaculture platforms, as well as supporting deep sea cage facilities, fishing boats, logistics supply vessels and land-based support facilities, and build a new mode of whole-industry chain fishery production that combines breeding-catching-plus and sea-island-land links.
